Vaccinations your dog or cat needs for boarding and day care
Pets at a boarding home or creche spend time close together, so up-to-date vaccinations protect your pet and every other pet there. Here is what is usually asked for in India, and how to plan ahead.
Dogs
- Anti-Rabies. Rabies is fatal and present in India, so this is required almost everywhere.
- DHLPPi (Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis, Parvovirus and Parainfluenza), the core combination vaccine, often given as a "7-in-1" or "9-in-1" shot.
- Kennel Cough (Bordetella). It spreads easily wherever dogs mix, which is why boarding homes and creches ask for it.
On Petroo every dog must have Anti-Rabies, DHLPPi and Kennel Cough vaccinations with active tick and flea treatment, and you upload the vaccination record when you book.
Cats
- Anti-Rabies.
- The feline core vaccine (FVRCP, often called "tricat"), which protects against feline rhinotracheitis, calicivirus and panleukopenia.
Check the house rules of the stay you choose, and ask Petroo if you're unsure what a host needs for your cat.
Tick, flea and worm protection
Keep tick and flea treatment active during the stay and deworming up to date. Ticks are common in many Indian cities, especially in the monsoon.
Plan ahead
- Check your pet's vaccination card a few weeks before the stay. Some vaccines need time after the shot before they fully protect your pet, and puppies and kittens need a series of shots.
- If a booster is due during the stay, get it done before you go.
- Keep a clear photo or PDF of the vaccination card on your phone. On Petroo you upload it once in My pets and it goes with every booking.
